Issues Identification Process

What is the Issues ID Process?

The Issues ID Process is identifying the complex and unique issues happening in your Nation, these conversations are documented and brought together in a "position paper" that we then can bring to the RIRSD Table.

What are the Three Questions?

As complex and unique everyone's situation is, we broke it down to three core questions as these conversations can really vary from each person, and we like to get everybody's input. Of course this does not limit the conversations happening, it only leads a conversation.

Three Key Questions:

1. What are some of your core values as a Nation

2. What kinds of issues matter to your Nation?

3. What do you want your future to look like in your Nation?

What are we going to do with this information?

These conversations will support the Nation in its Conversations with Canada (RIRSD Table). The Negotiation Team and Community Coordinator will work together to write a report, called a "Position Paper". The position paper will identify goals for the Negotiation Team. The goals will be based on what we hear from membership during the Issues Identification Process.
The Position Paper will be shared with Canada at the discussion table, this will help Canada:

- Understand some of the challenges MFN faces

- Work with MFN to develop solutions to some of these challenges.

When did this happen?

We have gone to our three Nations, Little Pine First Nation, Moosomin First Nation, and Luckyman Cree Nation in the past starting May 2024-August 2024 to begin the conversations with the Issues Identification Process where we sat with members, and documented their answers. We also served food and drinks, and were able to sit with Elders, Adults and Young Adults and any members of each Nation to gain input, this happened over a course of days.

If you have missed out on past invitations, please reach out to Jayneika Okemow-Bull to get you updated on your Nations Issues Identification Process. You can find her contact in the "Contact" Section of the website.

Conversations with Canada/RIRSD Table move slowly, as all things take time. They will plan short, medium, and long term goals to try find solutions for some issues your Nation is facing in the meantime.

Names and identifying info will not recorded or shared with Canada, participation is anonymous.
